Application fees unfairly burden renters and limit access to housing. Eliminating these fees promotes fairness and housing stability.

Rents are already too high. The cost for the landlord to process a rental application is minimal in comparison to the rent received. This is just greedy., With the current housing crisis, a renter could find themselves having to apply for several apartments; all these fees add up and could be costly.

Landlords are killing renters with multiple fees

About 3 years ago, after renting the same apartment for nearly 11 years, my landlord chose to sell the home. After attempting to pull together the needed funds to purchase the house & not being able to come up with nearly $500,000 to do so, I was forced to leave my beloved home. For the next 2.5years, I looked for another rental, filling out applications for nearly a dozen landlords. Many of these landlords had a "processing fee" for my application, ranging from $25 to $50 which is absurd! I have worked 2 jobs simultaneously for the last 30 years. I work very hard for the money I have & giving it to someone to glance over my application is just another way to take my hard earned money.
