We don't need any more voucher programs help by unaccountable agencies. We need to invest in our public schools, not give out vouchers to people who don't need them.

The trend of manufacturers charging subscription fees for built-in features that don't cost them money to enable is an insidious practice that shouldn't be allowed to become the new normal. It is simply one more way that giant corporations nickel and dime their consumers who are already struggling to afford basic necessities. I urge the committee to support this bill to save our constituents money and to stand up to harmful business practices.

I support this bill that would prohibit motor vehicle manufacturers and dealers from requiring subscription fees for the use of features utilizing hardware already installed in the vehicle at the time of purchase. It is disingenuous for the manufacturers and dealers to charge twice for these features.

When I heard about this bill, I asked Rep. Colby to include me as a cosponsor. I understand subscription fees for vehicle features that require external support, such as OnStar. But manufacturers are creating subscription fees for features that require no external support, such as heated seats, and that is outrageous. Although this bill has only Democratic sponsorship, this should be an easy bill to gain bipartisan support.

Imagine buying a 6 burner oven only to discover that to use all 6 of the burners you have to pay a subscription fee. Vehicle manufacturers are doing this every day. Charging consumers monthly fees to access standard features included in the price of the car at purchase. HB1146 will put an end to these deceptive practices, ensuring that manufacturers cannot restrict access to parts and accessories you have already paid for. Do not allow blanket law making that create unnecessary burdens in your citizens

I support this bill. You should get what you pay for and that is it. No subscriptions to use features that are built into the vehicle. Subscriptions are for magazines, not for vehicles. This is outrageous.

People should not have to pay monthly indefinitely for standard features after purchasing a car.
