Exempting seniors who have enjoyed the benefit of the schools within their community while forcing the tax burden onto non-seniors/ those ineligible by this bill is not appropriate.

I believe this bill is proper to allow senior citizens to get help on tax amounts.

This bill would help seniors stay in their home longer. This is a great idea.

We have lived in Amherst for 4o years and have never had a child in the school system. My husband & I have served on most of the boards in town for many years, and have tried to be good citizens in our town. We do not have net assets in excess of $750,000, rather, have a pension and social security. Our house is 245 years old. We do not want to move, nor do we have any reason to move. Our network of support and friends are in this local area. At this stage we are finding it difficult to be able to afford to paint the house, and paint the barn. We have maintained almost everything to the best of our ability but I must say, that the idea of home OWNERSHIP and reduced expenses is never to be a possibiity when 79 percent of our tax bill goes to support an almost $30,000 a year per student tax burden. We can never be more forceful than a group of young parents who want only the very best for their children and tell us to force the town to provide senior housing for us to move into! That is outrageous!

I support the bill and ask that you would change the length of time residing in the town to 15 years.

Senior citizens deserve a break on property taxes since 85% support the schools. We don't have any children in the system. We paid our share while they were. We need some relief.

I am 100% in support of helping our senior citizens realize some property tax relief. The requirements are sensible and will not overburden a town with infinite exemptions. But very long-term residents may be able to stay in the home they've lived in for many years; they will have at least 30 years of property tax payments already made to the town.

This bill shifts the tax burden onto those who don't qualify and increases the property tax rate for all property owners. Existing optional elderly exemptions are adequate to assist lower-income property owners. There are also added costs for towns in administering expanded exemption programs.

As a resident, who does not have children and will never have children, this bill poses a problem. I will continue to my taxes happily as is my NH resident duty. I believe in the education system, and they need tax payer support. Just because you're elderly, does not make you exempt. Just because I am childless, does not make me exempt.
