Granite State Taxpayers supports the expectation that voters confirm their identity using documentation before voting, and that the document they use to confirm identity does not demonstrate, by the state issuing the document, that the prospective voter is not in fact a resident of another state. HB618 would require that if the photo identification is an out-of-state driver's license or non-driver identification card, the ballot clerk shall check the statewide centralized voter registration database to determine if this license or identification has been used previously in an election in New Hampshire. If so, the voter shall be denied the privilege of voting. A driver's license issued by any state other than New Hampshire shall not be used at more than one election as identification. This is a reasonable position since, by previously voting in New Hampshire, a resident of another state, then holding a license from that state, established a bona fide residency in New Hampshire, as is required to vote here. After doing so they were obliged under RSA 263:35 to obtain a driver's license issued by the state of New Hampshire within a maximum of 60 days from the date his or her residency was established. After 60 days following establishing residency by voting in New Hampshire, the out of state license would be invalid and consequently no longer usable as a form of identification. Granite State Taxpayers supports SB618 which will make the voting process simpler to understand and more secure.

Making it easier for voter fraud is not protecting the right to vote, rather, it is disenfranchising voters who vote legally and thoughtfully. Don't make victims out of those who are already victimized by using them as a ploy to gain more voters.

This makes complete sense to identify someone using an out-of-state drivers license.

HB 618, enables election officials to verify the single use of an out-of-state driver’s license presented when a person votes by using the centralized voter registration database. This combined with proof of domicile would provide protections. The use of this exception should be closely tracked, as it should be rare and a small percentage of voters in a given election year. All use of this exception should be audit post facto to confirm fraud did not occur. Is common sense and should be a NH Law

Governor Sununu has stated over and over there is little to no voter fraud in NH. Individuals should not be listed in a special database because they are out of state.
