IEP Facilitation is a horrible process. There are two IEP facilitation methods that are used. One, a school hires someone to come to meetings which means that person is essentially an employee of the school and therefore not impartial. Two, the DOE has free IEP facilitators who they offer IF the school requests them. The reasoning given for this was buy in from the districts so that they follow through with any resolutions that may arise. So no solutions that come out of this are binding. They never really are. On top of that, IEP facilitators often merely parrot what the parties are saying and don't provide guidance on what the law mandates nor do they move the process along. This process if often a waste of time and money and should not be utilized as the outcomes are often poor for parents.
