A bill potentially violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is not something anyone should be supporting.

Minimum wage isn't even a living wage--and NO person should be paid less than that. If some one works hard an earns tips, good for them but they should not have to depend on tips to bring their income up to the minimum set by law.

Everyone deserves the same minimum wage. We don't live in the 70's anymore.

ALL workers should make a liveable wage INCLUDING those who work a tipped job. Tips should be additional to what a worker is paid, not an excuse to allow people to work for less.

NH needs to support our workers and have more bills like this one! Workers need livable wages.

Creating this protection for tipped workers closes a loophole for criminally underpaying workers. This is 100% good stuff.

This is an important bill to set a higher floor for our most underpaid workers. And, as a former English Major, it delights me to see that "sub-minimum," which is such a misnomer, will become the linguistically accurate "minimum." Minimum means lowest, after all.

People are done paying restaurant owners’ payroll for them, they aren’t going to be able to find servers if they don’t at least pay them minimum wage because people aren’t supplementing payroll expenses for businesses that got a bunch of FREE PPP money. Furthermore, if tips aren’t going to be taxed people aren’t going to give their taxed income to servers so businesses can make record profits. Payroll is part of the cost of doing business, if a restaurant can’t pay their own employees like most of the other states in this country, they can close. The general public isn’t paying their payroll directly anymore.

Increasing the minimum wage is the most important step the legislature can take to help New Hampshire individuals and/or their families have an income to meet basic living expenses. The affordable housing crisis exacerabes this problem. Gradually increasing the minimum wage gives business time to adjust to the change. Objective and unbiased studies do not support any claim that raising the minimum wage will cause people to loss their jobs. In fact employers may benefit with workers remaining longer at their job because they can afford to meet their basic living expense.

My name is Karen and I vote in Bristol. I SUPPORT this bill for the reason that we should not be making it more difficult for people to earn a living. The minimum wage is NOT a livable wage..

Dear Representative, It should go without saying that NH prohibits payment of subminimum wagers to workers. Doing so is self-evidentially and morally wrong as well as a subjecting workers who receive sub pay to live lives of worry and desperation, never rising high enough to afford truly decent housing, adequate utilities, education and a diet of healthy food. I will look forward to seeing your action to strongly support this bill. Sincerely, Linda Lea Snyder

It is ridiculous that some folks are paid less than the minimum wage. We need to increase the sub-minimum wage to match the current minimum wage of $7.25. If tips are a problem and are the main argument against this wage increase then tips need to be handled differently. It is almost impossible to make a living wage as a low paid service worker...Sub-minimum wages make it harder. If the employer wants to claim that the business cant afford the increase then the business may not be a going concern or there is too much income being siphoned off in other ways. Help people survive.

In a world characterized by inflation, the cost of living is becoming even more severe. Increasingly, service workers cannot survive off of a substandard minimum wage. To increase the quality of life of thousands of Granite Staters, all must receive at least the state/ federal minimum wage. Hence, HB442 must be passed.

This is a stupid move...having diversity in all aspects of policy will help to improve the health and wellbeing of all NH residents. We also need to assure that everyone is in the pool for hiring, etc. A meritocracy is diverse so we should not be afraid of aspiring for health equity and environmental justice.

While $7.25 is not a living wage, it is a step in the right direction.
