This bill removes the requirement for schools to provide meals to half-day kindergarten students. We oppose this bill because we know first-hand how important school meals are for the families that we serve in our affordable rental housing properties. Many families are struggling to afford the basic things they need to be healthy and thrive. School meals for all children who need them are critical to families of lower incomes. This helps them make ends meet, including affording their rent. So by extension, school meal programs help us address the crisis of housing instability and homelessness that our state is facing. Please vote this bill inexpedient to legislate. Thank you.
