Dan Smith for Myself Newmarket If you take a look at the sheer amount of work required to manage a public school district (complying with federal and state mandates, following Department of Education rules, negotiating collective bargaining agreements with employees, being responsive to parents and community members, administering social welfare programs that are channeled through school districts, regularly updating curriculum, etc., etc., etc.) there is simply no realistic way that a single person could be responsible for the number of school districts in, for instance, Rockingham County. Also, how is a single superintendent supposed to be accountable to multiple, independent school boards? This is hard enough in cooperative school districts where communities have chosen, willingly, to partner. The idea that the legislature could force multiple independent municipalities to agree on a single individual to lead their individual school districts is laughable. What ever happened to local control as a guiding philosophy in New Hampshire? The legislature should place this bill squarely on the dust heap of bad ideas. | Newmarket | Oppose | 1,099 | Jan 23, 2025 | |
